Ritsurin Park

Ritsurin ParkRitsurin Park is one of 6 of Japan's Daimyo Gardens and is the largest of its landscaped botanical gardens. It's located just 1 km south of central Takamatsu.

The construction of the park was begun by Takatoshi Ikoma, Lord of Sanuki, in the mid-1600's and completed by Yoritaka Matsudaira, the 5th Lord of Takamatsu, 100 years later. The park was used as a villa for the Lords of the Matsudaira family for 228 years, up until the Meiji Restoration.

Ritsurin Park covers about 134 acres and features the type of landscaping made popular during the Edo Period. It includes a folkcraft museum (seen in the background here), a teahouse, and several carp ponds. It's a great place for those who like walking through green landscapes with plenty of water and is well worth the small admission fee.

Here are twenty of my best shots of the park. They may not do it justice, but I hope they will suffice until you can come and see it for yourself.
